Joseph E. Shawhan

Officer Joseph E. Shawhan died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident while pursuing a traffic violator on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in the vicinity of Wellington on April 15, 1944.

Officer Shawhan was to have retired in two months.

He was 60 years old and had 24 years of U. S. Park Police service.

Policeman Dies In Skidding Squad Car

Pvt. Joseph E. Shawhan, 60, of 723 North Ivy st., Arlington, National Capital Park policeman, was killed instantly yesterday in an accident at noon when his squad car left the Mount Vernon Memorial Boulevard near Wellington Villa and crashed into a tree.
